Tattooing on a mole or freckle

Is there a problem with tattooing on a mole or freckle?

Melanoma (cancer derived from melanocytes, the cells that give skin and moles their color) is diagnosed by observation with a polarized light magnifying glass (dermoscopy) or by skin biopsy.

Tattooing over a mole does not imply that it becomes malignant. However, if a mole degenerates into melanoma and it is partially or totally hidden by the tattoo ink , it is difficult to detect the early changes that suggest the transition of the mole to a malignant lesion, so the diagnosis is delayed and therefore the prognosis of the cancer worsens.

For this reason, it is imperative not to tattoo over any mole and to ask the professional who performs the tattoo to avoid pigmented lesions.
